Klimor plant with its own PV energy source

The transitioning process to renewable energy sources has been divided into stages and is included in the company’s long-term investment strategy. The Klimor production plant located in Pszczółki is already drawing electricity generated by its own photovoltaic system of 50 kW. Thanks to photovoltaic roof-mounted panels, the solar energy satisfies approximately 50% of the building’s energy demand for both production and office buildings. The investment of PLN 170,000 is to be amortised within 6 to 8 years – this is the first step in the process of energy transformation of Klimor plants, which aims at achieving complete independence in energy generation.

The subsequent stages of the investment project outline the construction of two photovoltaic power stations on the land belonging to Klimor, next to the production plants in Pszczółki and Skowarcz. In the first location, the additional PV system will generate 1.2 MW of energy, in the second as much as 2.2 MW. This amount of energy will not only meet the energy requirements of production plants and offices combined but will also generate additional energy exceeding the demand of Klimor several times over.

“At present, the generated surplus energy is fed into the power grid, but in the long run, under the amendment to the Act on Renewable Energy Sources, it will be possible to connect corporate prosumers to the so-called energy cooperatives, which bring together entities producing energy for their own use and for the use of other community members. The ability to share surplus electrical energy will allow to provide cheaper and environmentally friendly solar energy to a much wider group of recipients. We wish to become an active participant of the RES market; therefore, we plan to cooperate with the gmina of Pszczółki and local companies in this regard.” – explains Piotr Świerczek, Operations Manager at Klimor.

The attainment of energy independence by Klimor and its participation in the energy supplier cooperative belong to the key objectives of the European Union, which is to increase the share of electrical energy coming from RES in order to lower the costs for the economy and consumers alike. According to the data provided by the Industry Agreement for Energy Efficiency (POBE), the share of RES in Poland’s power mix until 2030 will amount to 27.1%. The PV market in Poland is the most dynamic of all RES sectors and is ranked fifth in terms of the growth of new PV capacity in Europe, with the installed capacity in 2020 of about 2.5 GW.
